The 1% audit is not a productivity hack. It's a maintenance practice. Most people do maintenance on everything except their own systems. They service their car, clean their house, update their software, and walk around with cognitive and behavioral infrastructure that hasn't been reviewed in years.
Here's what the audit looks like in practice. You go through your days in your head: morning to night, Monday to Sunday. Anywhere you feel resistance, note it. Anything that takes more energy than it should, note it. Any habit that exists because it once made sense but you've never questioned since, note it. Any commitment you say yes to automatically without considering whether it still deserves a yes, note it.
Then you fix one thing. Not ten things. Not a whole system overhaul. One thing.
Compound that over twelve months and you're operating in a fundamentally different environment than you were a year ago. That's the actual value of marginal gains. Not any single 1% improvement. The accumulated effect of not tolerating friction you don't have to tolerate.
